The Transfiguration
"And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And His raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead", Mark 9:2-9.

The word translated in the KJV as transfiguration comes from the Greek word metamorphoo[3339] which is a verb that means to transform, to transfigure, to change in form. We can see that this Greek word is a source for the word metamorphisis.
In Luke 9:29-30 it says that Moses and Elijah had come to talk, "...of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem".
Moses was there because he was the lawgiver. They called it the "Law of Moses". And as the lawgiver, he was there to make sure that every detail of the Law would be fulfilled. "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ", John 1:17. "Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb...", Malachi 4:4.
The Spirit of Elijah prepares the way before the Lord. That is why Elijah was at the transfiguration. And as the one who prepares the way for the Lord, he is intimately involved in the details.
Moses and Elijah were there to discuss the details and compare notes to make sure that every detail, both in the Law and all the Messianic prophecies, that needed to be fulfilled relating to Jesus' death were fulfilled.
The Word declares, "And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light", Matthew 17:2.
This description is of Jesus in the Spirit. His appearance portrays purity and the righteousness of GOD.
The Father was in the cloud. It was His voice that spoke. And the words He spoke were the same as when Jesus was baptized. "This is my beloved Son...".
